The CSSB has the following types of memberships available:
These members must abide by rules and regulations set out in their membership agreements and CSSB by-laws, as amended from time to time by the Board of Directors.
Manufacturers
Mill
Mills that produce red or yellow cedar shakes, shingles and/or sidewall product to a standard of quality represented by the Certi-label™ brand name. The producers of these products must meet certain criteria and grading standards in order to put the Certi-label™ on their product.
Treater
Currently a Treater membership is held by companies that treat cedar shakes & shingles at a facility with either pressure impregnated fire-retardant treatment (Certi-Guard®) or pressure impregnated preservative treatment (Certi-last®). A Treater member must meet certain criteria and standards in order to put the Certi-Guard® or Certi-Last® label on their product.
Affiliates
Distributor/Broker/Wholesaler
This membership is held by a Retailer, Wholesaler or Broker member that supplies Certi-label™ shakes and shingles to various locations in North America or exports them overseas.
Retailer
This membership is held by Retailer member that supplies Certi-label™ shakes and shingles to the end user in North America .
Approved Installer
The Approved Installer membership is based on a member agreeing to apply cedar shakes and shingles to roofs and walls in accordance with application standards established by the CSSB or stricter standards if required by local building codes. The Member shall have the option of including the CSSB administered 20/25 Year Limited Warranty with every estimate provided to a homeowner or builder.
Associate
- Business
This type of membership is held by various types of businesses; from roofing hardware suppliers, to independent building inspectors, to transportation companies. These companies are given the opportunity to utilize marketing brochures and to be affiliated with the recognized CSSB name.
- Professional
This type of membership includes professionals (engineers, architects) who wish to be affiliated with the CSSB.

Subsidiary
A subsidiary is a branch office of an Affiliate or Distributor member.
Alumni and Honorary
This type of membership is reserved for long term industry people who have helped the CSSB over the years by supplying information, volunteering and helping with field issues. They are considered friends of the industry.
